Length: 33 Miles
Elevation: 1,200' - 4,700'
Surface: Gravel Road/Single-track
Physical: Advanced
Technical: Intermediate
Season: Summer, Fall
Note: All distances and times are rough estimates

An epic gravel road climb followed by an even more epic single-track descent. Great views and miles of smooth trail reward those willing to do the gravel. The route described here is 1/3 of the Cascades CreamPuff 100. A 100 mile race held in Oakridge every July.

  • From Eugene, OR Drive SE on Hwy 58 approximately 30 miles.
  • Turn right off of the Highway to go to Westfir.
  • Cross a green steel bridge and turn left.
  • Continue for apporximately 2 miles and park across from the big red covered bridge in Westfir.
  • Time from Eugene: approx: 45 min.

Drinking water is available at a water fountain near the red covered bridge.

After the ride, cool off with a swim in the North Fork. There is a great swimming hole 3.3 miles upriver from the red covered bridge on USFS #19.

To refuel, I highly recommend Rosalina's Mexican Resteraunt in Oakridge just off of the Highway near the Dairy Queen.

Note:The distances given here are approximate. I highly recommend a map with current USFS roads and topographic features. The Oakridge District Map is the best I've seen of this area.

  • Follow USFS Road #19 upriver along the North Fork River.
  • After about 3 miles turn left onto road #1910 and cross the North Fork.
  • Begin the gravel road climb, staying on #1910 for about 11 miles.
  • Turn right on #1911 and continue for about 1/4 mile to #1912.
  • Follow #1912 for about 3/4 mile.
  • Turn left onto #140 and follow for about 5 miles.
  • Turn right at #142 and continue for 1 mile
  • Look for the single-track on the right.
  • For the next 4 miles the trail climbs up and over Sourgrass Mt.
  • At the intersection with #1912, cross the road and pick up the trail on the other side.
  • After another 1.5 miles of awesome single-track, follow #1911 along the ridge past the intersection with #1910.
  • Pick up the single-track again on the left side of the road after about 1/2 mile.
  • After about 3/4 of a mile, stay left at the intersection with the Tire Mt. trail.
  • Descend to Westfir crossing a few roads along the way.
  • At the lower trailhead, turn left on a paved road and follow it across the railroad tracks, through a residential area and across the North Fork River.
  • Turn left and head upriver back to the red covered bridge.
