The trail begins by climbing gradually through mature stands
of Douglas-fir. After about 3 miles the trail enters a clear-cut
with views of the Husband and Sisters. The route continues
by following the dirt road on the opposite side of the clear
cut. After .7 miles at the junction with Road #480, pick up
the trail on the opposite side of #480 slightly uphill from
the junction. Continuing upward, the trail then dips after
.5 miles and intersects with the Olallie Trail. Continue right,
uphill through some tight switchbacks and dense second-growth.
The Castle Rock Trail begins at the end of Road #480 and leads
to the summit of Castle Rock after about 1 mile. Descend the
same route; be careful not to accidentally descend don the
Olallie trail.
Alternate: Avoid climbing
some of the tight switchbacks by riding up Road #480 to its
end and pick up the Castle Rock Trail to the summit. |
