Length: 10 miles
Elevation: 2240'-2750'
Surface: 100% Single Track
Physical: Intermediate
Technical: Intermediate
Season: Spring, Summer, Fall
Narrow single-track that climbs up and down along the Winberry Divide with some good viewpoints and the opportunity to practice steep switchbacks.

  • From Eugene, follow Hwy 58 SE to Lowell
  • Just past the Lowell Ranger Station, take a right on North Shore Rd. #5821
  • Drive SE along the shore of Lookout Point Reservoir for approximately 12 miles.
  • Turn left on to USFS road #5823 and continue 4.5 miles to a saddle in the ridge.

Be sure to warm up and stretch thoroughly before starting out because the trail begins with a grunt up several steep switchbacks. Descending on the other side you'll get to practice your downhill switchback technique several times before crossing a gravel road. Be sure to save some energy for the return trip over the hump back to your car because there is no other way to get back to the trailhead other than dropping down to the reservior and riding back up # 5823.
Continuing on, the route rolls along the ridge, but gradually gains elevation until joining the Tire Mountain Trail Head on road # 5824. For a longer ride follow the Tire Mountain trail to its summit. To get to a good lunch spot, follow # 5824 uphill for about 1/2 mile and take the next right which descends briefly above a clearcut offering a great view of Lookout Point Reservoir.
The return trip is a little faster because of the overall net drop in elevation, but a few climbs remain including the steep swithbacks over the last hump.
The Winberry Divide Trail is often in better shape than other trails, especially early in the season because water drains off of the ridge relatively quickly.
